Venice, Louisiana is home to some incredible speckled trout fishing. Not only do we have large numbers of trout, but we also regularly catch trophy fish in the 4- to 6-pound range and even larger.
A typical day starts early so we can take advantage of the morning bite. We usually leave the dock around 5:30 a.m. and make the run downriver to our fishing grounds. Our preferred approach is throwing artificial lures such as jig-and-plastic combinations, twitch baits, and, when conditions are right, topwater lures. We often carry live shrimp as well, but availability depends on trout activity, weather conditions, and whether the local bait shops have shrimp in stock.
If you've trout fished before, you know how finicky these fish can be. Success often comes from constantly adjusting lure styles, colors, weights, and retrieves until you find what they want that day. That's part of what makes trout fishing so exciting.

For anglers looking for a truly unique experience and who have some previous fishing experience, be sure to ask about our wade-fishing trips to the famous Chandeleur Islands. When weather conditions allow, we'll make the run out to the islands, anchor the boat, and wade in water ranging from shin-deep to chest-deep while casting a variety of lures for big spawning trout.
It's an incredible experience that few anglers ever get the chance to enjoy. When the conditions line up, the action can be absolutely unbelievable. At Gulf Expedition Outfitters, we're always focused on targeting the biggest trout in the system, with fish from 4 to 6+ pounds being our goal.

If chasing trophy trout sounds like your kind of adventure, give us a call. We'll do everything we can to put you on the fish of a lifetime.
